Maccay - Terrier and Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Bend, Oregon

Meet Maccay!

My Story: From a Crowded Home to a Brand-New World
Hi there! I'm one of 13 small-breed mixed-breed dogs who recently arrived at Street Dog Hero, and I'm just beginning to discover what life can be like outside the only home I've ever known. I was rescued from a hoarding situation on October 6, 2026, where I lived with 58 other canine family members, 16 cats, and two elderly humans. My world was very small, and I never had the opportunity to leave the inside of my former home.

So, please forgive me if I seem frightened, shy, or unsure when we first meet. Literally everything is new to me! The sights, sounds, smells, people, and experiences that other dogs might take for granted are things I'm only just beginning to discover. I may need extra time to feel safe, learn to trust, and understand that this new world has good things waiting for me, too. Thanks to the partnership between Street Dog Hero and a wonderful rescue organization in Klamath County, I now have the chance to begin a new chapter here in Bend, Oregon. Many of us appear to be Chihuahua, Terrier or Pomeranian mixes, possibly with Yorkie or other small terrier breeds in our family tree, although our exact breed backgrounds are still a mystery. My journey will take patience, kindness, and understanding. I need someone who won't rush me, expect me to be confident overnight, or take it personally if I need a little space. Instead, I need a person who will celebrate the small victories, give me time to adjust, and help me discover the world at my own pace. I'm still waiting for my veterinary evaluation and the medical care I need before I'm ready for adoption. As my foster family gets to know me, we'll learn more about my personality and the kind of home where I can feel safe and thrive.

Could you be the person who helps me discover what it means to be loved, protected, and truly part of a family? Don't wait to apply! You can submit your Street Dog Hero adoption application and join my general interest list while I work through my medical care and settle into this new chapter. When I'm ready, we'll be looking for a home that understands my past and is excited to help me build a brighter future. I may be little, and I may be scared, but my past doesn't have to define my future. With the right person by my side, maybe the world won't seem quite so big and frightening after all.

I have a whole new life ahead of me. Will you be my lucky hero?

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.

The terrier is a spirited and intelligent dog breed known for its feisty personality and boundless energy. Terriers come in various sizes and coat types, but they all share a common heritage as fearless and determined hunters. These dogs are typically highly trainable, making them versatile companions for active individuals and families alike. With their loyalty and playful demeanor, terriers are beloved for their endless enthusiasm and affectionate nature.
