Meet Spila, a five-year-old Husky/German Shepherd mix weighing 51 pounds.
Spila is a smart, playful girl who's ready to find a home where she can finally relax and be herself.
She was brought to the shelter by Animal Control, and while we don't know much about her past, it's clear that the kennel environment has been stressful and confusing for her. Inside the shelter, she can seem unsure and overwhelmed—but take her outside, and it's like meeting a completely different dog. Her playful, affectionate personality begins to shine, and you can see the wonderful companion she's capable of becoming.
Spila already knows "sit" and an adorable "sit pretty," especially when treats are involved! She's very food motivated, enjoys learning, and absolutely loves squeaky toys. She's also kennel trained and walks fairly well on a leash, though she can be a little stubborn with people she doesn't know yet. Once you've earned her trust, she's happy to look to you for guidance.
You may notice a mysterious scar on Spila's side—a reminder that she's lived a life before coming to the shelter. While we don't know how she got it, she's ready to leave the past behind and focus on a brighter future.
Because she's still adjusting to all the changes in her life, Spila would likely do best in a home without young children, where she can settle in at her own pace. If there are other dogs in the home, we recommend a meet-and-greet to help ensure everyone is a good match.
Spila is looking for a patient family that will give her the time, consistency, and love she needs to feel safe. In return, you'll gain a loyal, intelligent companion who can't wait to show you just how special she is.
