Meet Picnic: A gentle, loving mama dog ready for a home of her own!
Picnic has done the hardest job already: raising her babies after being found abandoned and alone with a litter of nursing puppies. Now that her pups are old enough to head off to families of their own, it’s finally Picnic’s turn to be cared for, spoiled, and loved the way she deserves. And honestly, she makes it incredibly easy.
At around 2 years old and 30 pounds, Picnic is the definition of a gentle, easygoing companion. This Scottie/Schnauzer mix has a calm, affectionate temperament that makes her the kind of dog who quietly becomes everyone’s favorite. From the moment she arrived in foster care, she showed how resilient and loving she is. Despite everything she’d been through, she wasn’t fearful or shut down. She simply wanted to explore the house, check in on her people, and find a cozy spot to relax.

Daily Routine
Picnic’s days are wonderfully mellow. She sleeps quietly in her crate next to her puppies’ x-pen and happily waits until her foster family gets up around 7:00–7:30 each morning. After a quick potty trip outside, everyone eats.

If the weather is nice, Picnic spends time outdoors supervising her little ones, wandering the yard, and soaking up the sunshine. Once the puppies settle down for naps, Picnic is free to roam between the yard and indoor playroom, usually choosing whichever location offers the best combination of comfy lounging and nearby humans.
After another afternoon potty break, meal, and play session, everyone winds down for the evening with a final outing around 10:00 before bedtime. Picnic sleeps peacefully in her crate all night without accidents.

Personality
Picnic is an explorer at heart, but not in a chaotic way. She likes to sniff around from room to room, quietly checking on everyone before curling up on a dog bed or hopping onto the couch for affection. She’s incredibly sweet and loves pets, kisses, and gentle attention.
While she isn’t overly clingy, her foster family suspects she may become even cuddlier once she’s no longer in full-time mom mode. She has a calm, peaceful presence and doesn’t get worked up easily. Even when other dogs bark, Picnic usually stays relaxed and unbothered.
Her favorite activities include sunbathing, leisurely sniff sessions, chew toys, and relaxing nearby while her people go about their day.

Other Dogs and Social Skills
Picnic gets along nicely with other dogs and has lived peacefully with two large resident dogs in foster care. She’ll happily play with the doodle in the home or simply coexist calmly. She doesn’t seem overly interested in drama or roughhousing — she’s much more of a “hang out together” kind of dog.
She has also met children on walks and responded exactly how you’d expect from Picnic: politely hopeful they might stop and give her affection.

Walks and Adventures
Because her puppies were too young for a while, Picnic has only recently started going on walks, but she’s already proven herself to be a lovely walking companion. She walks beautifully on her collar with no pulling, gets excited when she sees the leash, and spends most of the walk happily sniffing the world around her.

Other dogs don’t bother her much, though squirrels may earn a little extra enthusiasm. Mostly, Picnic seems more interested in meeting the humans attached to the dogs.
She also visited a park and seemed interested in joining the fun, even if she stayed on the sidelines observing.

Home Life and Training
Picnic is crate trained and keeps her crate clean overnight. She’s doing well with house training overall, especially when she has easy access to the yard, and she’s very treat motivated, which should make continued training straightforward.

She’s not destructive and isn’t much of a chewer outside of enjoying appropriate toys and chew sticks. She did briefly discover the joy of digging in the garden, but redirecting her and blocking off her favorite digging spot solved the issue quickly.

The Funniest Picnic Story
Even while nursing her puppies, Picnic refused to let motherhood interfere with her hobbies. Instead of lying down to nurse, she would often wander around the yard investigating smells and exploring while determined little puppies dangled along behind her trying to keep up. Apparently there were simply too many important things to sniff.

Picnic deserves a soft landing after spending so much time caring for everyone else. She’s sweet, quiet, loving, and wonderfully uncomplicated — the kind of dog who asks for very little besides a sunny spot, a comfy place to rest, and people who adore her.All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.
