Slimp is about 3 years old, weighs 20 pounds, and came to us after being part of an abandonment/confiscation case at a local shelter. Unfortunately, shelters aren't given many details in cases like these, so we don't know exactly what he went through before he arrived. What we do know is that he deserved better.
When we picked Slimp up, he was covered in fleas and ticks, and we also noticed he had an unusual way of walking. Thankfully, the parasites are long gone, but after veterinary evaluation we learned that Slimp has luxating patellas in both of his back legs. Miraculously, Slimp doesn't let it slow him down in the slightest!
Despite his wonky little walk, he runs, plays, wrestles, explores, and lives life at full speed. Because he isn't in pain and gets around so well, our veterinarian recommended against surgery, which for him would involve difficult surgeries followed by months of recovery. Instead, Slimp just needs lifelong joint supplements and a little common sense when it comes to avoiding excessive jumping and high-impact activity.
Personality-wise, Slimp is impossible to overlook. He's confident, outgoing, and always manages to find himself in the middle of whatever is happening. He enjoys other dogs but definitely likes to make his presence known, and he's never met a person who wasn't a potential new friend.
Slimp doesn't spend any time worrying about what makes him different, and neither should you. He wakes up every day ready to play, make friends, and enjoy life to the fullest!
