Tippy is a laid-back little girl who would much rather lounge and cuddle than spend her day playing. She's good with cats and does well with respectful dogs, although she can become nervous if another dog gets too much in her face. She rides fine in the car and is currently working on her leash skills as well as outdoor and potty-pad training.
Tippy does have strong stranger danger, which means she needs an adult-only home with someone who understands and respects her boundaries. She does not like being reached for or grabbed, and she is especially uncomfortable when someone reaches into a kennel to pick her up. She does best when she gets to choose when physical contact happens.
And once Tippy chooses you? That's when the magic happens.
If you squat down and give her the opportunity, Tippy will happily jump into your lap or arms when she's ready. She may also stand against your leg to let you know she wants to be picked up. Once she trusts you, she becomes an incredibly affectionate cuddle buddy who loves being held and wants to stay close to her favorite human.
Tippy does best in a pen rather than a traditional kennel, where she feels more comfortable and doesn't have to worry about someone reaching in to grab her. She should also be safely put away when guests are visiting rather than expected to interact with them. Men may initially make her nervous, though she needs more time and testing before we can accurately determine her comfort level.
Tippy is a dog who will teach you that respect is the foundation of trust. She doesn't need someone to make her more social, she needs someone who understands that it's perfectly okay for a dog to have boundaries and preferences.
Give Tippy the freedom to choose her interactions. Listen when she says she's uncomfortable. Let her decide when she's ready for that first cuddle.
In return, you'll get to know the incredibly sweet little dog hiding underneath all that stranger danger,a loyal, loving, devoted best friend who wants nothing more than to be safe and close to her person.
Tippy is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 9/26/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven't arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start's Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Visit our Foster to Adopt Program page to learn more. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start's veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.
