Meet Opie, Our Big Ol’ Couch Hippo

Opie is an approximately 6-year-old, 80-pound pit bull mix with a whole lot of love to give and a serious appreciation for the finer things in life—couches, belly rubs, and snackies!

This big guy is a total sweetheart once he knows you, and there is nothing Opie enjoys more than settling in with his people and getting some good belly rubs. He is house trained, crate trained, leash trained, knows his basic commands, and does well with a female dog. He’s got all the makings of a wonderful companion; he just needs the right person to give him the time to show it.

Opie has spent a long time in shelters and rescue, so we’re looking for a confident, patient adopter who understands that transitioning into a new home doesn’t happen overnight. Opie needs some time to decompress, learn his new surroundings, and build trust with his people. He doesn’t need someone to rush him—he needs someone who will give him the space and consistency to settle in at his own pace.

Once Opie knows you’re his person, you’ll have a big, lovable couch hippo who is more than happy to hang out beside you, enjoy his snackies, and soak up all the belly rubs you can give.

Because Opie is a big boy at around 80 pounds, we feel he would do best with children 12 and older simply because of his size. Even the sweetest big dog can accidentally knock over a little one, and we want everyone to be set up for success.

Opie is neutered, fully vetted, and ready for his forever home.

He’s waited a long time for a place to call his own. Now he’s ready for someone who will give him the patience, confidence, and love to finally settle in and realize he’s home.
