9/24/26-Guess who rolled over for BELLY RUBS?!? That’s right... MAPLE! And the best part? They were for FOSTER DAD! The same big guy she’s been a little unsure of — and may have been holding a tiny grudge against for taking her to and from the vet — got the ultimate sign of approval today: the belly! Lol
For a retired breeder mama who is still learning that people can be kind, hands can be gentle, and a home can be safe, this is HUGE progress. Every tiny step is a big victory for Maple. Keep being brave, sweet girl. You’re doing amazing.

9/23/26-Sunday night, Maple spent the night sleeping next to her favorite person, our daughter. She slept on the floor beside Maple to help her feel safe, comfortable, and relaxed. There’s already something very special about the bond between these two. Monday morning, Maple was spayed, and when she came home Tuesday afternoon, she was understandably uncomfortable and a little restless. She didn’t want to settle inside and preferred spending time out in the yard. She’s still figuring out this whole “living in a house with a family” thing—and, most importantly, her favorite person was still at school! Later that afternoon, Maple was VERY happy to see our daughter get off the big yellow school bus. She also got to meet another 10-year-old child. Maple walked right up to both girls and happily let them pet her. One thing is becoming very clear: Maple loves kids. She didn’t eat much dinner Tuesday night, but she did take her medicine in a pill pocket like a good girl. Then came another BIG milestone. Late Tuesday night, Maple approached me—foster mom—for the very first time and allowed me to pet her. And she didn’t just do it once. She came back several times! For a scared little girl who has been through so much and is still learning that people can be trusted, that felt huge. Foster dad is home with Maple during the day, and we know she’ll warm up to him eventually. For now, however, he’s still the big guy who took her to the vet and brought her home after her spay. Lol Maple may be holding just a tiny grudge. We’re confident that, with time, she’ll let down her guard and realize he’s one of the good guys too. Our daughter slept on the floor with Maple again Tuesday night, and this morning she reported something pretty amazing: Maple let her rub her belly! Today, Maple still isn’t eating much, although she is taking her medicine. After our daughter left for school, she began pacing through the house and only settling for short periods. We suspect she’s wondering where her little person went and when that big yellow bus is going to bring her back. But there’s something really encouraging hidden in all that pacing. When Maple does settle down, she now chooses to rest in the living room with the family instead of hiding in a corner. Maple is still uncomfortable from her surgery. She still hasn’t completely settled into her new surroundings, and she’s still learning that she can trust us. But when we look at where this frightened little girl was just a few days ago compared with where she is today, the progress is incredible. She’s leaving her corner. She’s seeking out affection. She’s choosing to be near the family. She’s learning what it feels like to be safe. And she has already decided that our daughter is her person. One tiny, brave step at a time, Miss Maple. You’re doing so well.And by this afternoon? Maple finally settled down, stretched out in the living room, and took a 10-minute nap! It might not sound like much, but for a little girl who has spent her life in a puppy mill, feeling safe enough to relax and close her eyes in a new home is HUGE progress.We are so proud of you, Maple! 9/19/26-Introducing Maple Mae McShortlegs
Our newest foster is a 3-year-old corgi who arrived today, thanks to an amazing group of dedicated volunteers! Sweet Maple is still settling in. She’s quiet, a little scared, and trying to make sense of her new surroundings. But she’s already made a new friend in our 10 year old daughter! What Maple doesn’t know yet is that the best chapter of her life is just beginning. Welcome to freedom, the warmth of a family, and a whole lot of love, little Miss McShortlegs! You’re safe now, sweet girl.
Maple is being spayed on Monday and will be available for adoption soon.

09/18/26-Maple Mae McShortlegs is a beautiful 3 year old female Pembroke Welsh Corgi. She came in from a commercial breeder that didn’t need her any more. She arrived into rescue today thanks to her transport volunteers. She will be spayed on Monday 9/21 & will be ready to go home soon after that once we get to know her better.
