Rikki originally came to us from Chicago Animal Care and Control in 2022. He was quickly adopted by a lovely couple, who returned in 2024 to adopt another pittie from us, Peadar!
Sadly, recently, one of Rikki and Peadar's owners passed away and the other's health is suffering, so she made the incredibly heartbreaking decision to return them to our care. It was obvious both of them have been well loved. Rikki is affectionate, quiet, sweet, and social. Both dogs arrived in great health, with immaculately kept vet records. These pups have been so well cared for, and it shows in their personalities.
Despite not understanding why he's back at Heartland, Rikki is happy to greet everyone he meets. He is an absolute gentleman, and a quintessential silver pittie - a big lug of a guy with a soft, mushy center. At about 7 years old, he doesn't seem to know he's not a big baby - his owners even brought his favorite gray blanket to the shelter with him because he sleeps with it every night.
Rikki is the perfect house hippo, and dogs always show us how resilient they can be. If you have room in your heart and home for him, you will be rewarded with unwavering loyalty in return.
Rikki's adoption fee has been generously sponsored by The Rosenthal Family Foundation. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
