Tiger may look familiar, and that is because he was briefly on our website back in February. Before coming to us in February, Tiger (then known as Home Fries) was at Chicago Animal Care and Control for TWO whole months. When we met him down there, we could not believe this gem had waited there for so long. He is calm and patient and not vocal. He came in knowing lots of commands like "sit," "down," and "paw," and is clearly so smart. We are certain that he was someone's pet previously.
It is likely that his ability to fly under the radar by being such a good boy is why he was overlooked at CACC for so long. That wasn't the case at Heartland, where he was adopted within just a few days of being available.
Tiger's adopter loves him very much, and if you read on you will see why. Sadly, Tiger's adopter will be moving to another state in May, where he will need to live with another dog and a cat, and Tiger is not ready to share his home with other animals just yet. While Tiger may be dog selective-- meaning he likes some dogs, and does not like others, as is the case with many adult dogs (and adult humans!), he is *not* "people selective!" Tiger LOVES everyone he meets. He loves big hugs, cuddling, pets, you name it. If you feel like spooning, he is all for it, but he won't beg for it! This boy is not at all needy; his love is steadfast and is one constant that you can count on.
Tiger's adopter lives in an apartment complex, and Tiger has done very well there. He doesn't bark, he is totally housebroken, and he can be left for 8-9 hours out of the crate without issue. He can be reactive on the leash, barking back at dogs who bark at him first, and he is a big boy who may pull at times, but he is also incredibly smart and attentive to his handler so is easily redirected. If that were not the case, it would be a lot harder to manage this big boy in a dog friendly apartment building!
Tiger's adopter, Sam, is fostering him until he leaves in mid-May, and he so hopes that Tiger is adopted before he leaves so that Tiger does not have to come to the shelter again, and so that Sam can be a part of the process.
He writes, "Tiger is a big goof ball that loves exploring the world one sniff at a time. He loves getting to run around on the long leash since I do not have a fenced yard, and loves to play Tuggle rope. He loves cuddling on the couch. Inside the home, Tiger is the perfect dog:he is quiet and low to medium energy. One of his favorite things to do is lay on the balcony in the sunshine. He may need help learning to socialize properly with other dogs, but I promise he is worth it. He knows basic commands, and is working on his recall with the long leash. He will even wait for you to tell him it is okay to eat his food.
If you want a big boy who will show you lots of love, Tiger is your guy."
Home Fries's adoption fee has been generously sponsored! He is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
