Pure joy radiates from Bear: when he is happy, his whole body wags! He has a boulder of a head on a tiny, compact body so that giant head is smiling wide while his tiny little booty is shaking! We just love him. As you can see from his pictures and videos, so do all of the dogs.
Bear had a rough winter before coming to us. He was found on a back porch in Chicago, but no one in the building claimed ownership. Sadder still, no one came looking for him after animal control came to pick him up. It is a shame that such a good boy waited at Chicago Animal Care and Control for over a month, but there are simply so many dogs in need and sometimes our block-headed, black, bully type friends are the first to be overlooked.
Well, we are so glad that Bear finally stood out to us! He came so highly recommended by the staff and volunteers at CACC and we were so happy to make him a Heartland dog!
A couple of weeks after arriving at our shelter, Bear caught the eye of a family who thought he was just the cutest thing ever! He was adopted in February, but the family recently reached out hoping to rehome Bear in search of a better long-term fit. Their household, with young children and a cat, turned out to be just a little overstimulating for him. Thankfully, they're continuing to foster Bear, so he doesn't need to spend any more time in the shelter.
Here is what they have to say about him,
"Meet Bear - a 2-year-old male pit bull with a big heart, a shiny black coat, and an even bigger love for his people. Bear is the perfect mix of playful and affectionate-he loves zooming around the yard with his favorite bone, showing off his goofy personality, and then curling up right next to you for cuddles. He's house-trained, crate-trained, and already knows his commands: sit, down, stay, and place, making him a well-mannered companion with a great foundation. Bear is smart, eager to please, and enjoys learning, though on walks he can get a little enthusiastic and may pull because he's so excited to explore the world. He's a quiet guy who doesn't bark much, but his constantly wagging tail says it all. Bear also loves car rides and would make the perfect adventure buddy. Bear will do best in a home with children ages 13+. If he has a dog sibling, a larger dog who can match his playful energy would be ideal. Bear is looking for a fun, loving family who will include him in their lives, give him structure and exercise, and enjoy both his silly side and his sweet, loyal companionship."

Bear's adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
