DESCRIPTION

Hi, my name is Schnitzel! I'm one of three brothers who recently made our way to Oregon from Texas. We were born on May 12, 2026, and I currently weigh about 10 lbs.

When I first arrived, I was VERY nervous. Everything was new, and I wasn't quite sure what to think about all these new people, sounds, smells, and routines. After a few days, though, I started realizing that maybe people aren't so scary after all.

I'm still a shy little guy, but I have already shown the humans here that I can warm up when they give me the chance to do things at my own pace. I really like soft baby talk, people getting down at my level, and gentle scratches underneath my chin. Reaching over my head right away can feel like a lot, so my new family will need to let me approach them and build that trust before expecting me to enjoy lots of handling.

I can also get overwhelmed pretty quickly, so slow and steady is very important for me. When I start feeling more comfortable, it can be tempting to think I'm ready for everything-but that's exactly when my family needs to remember not to move too fast. I need continued reassurance, confidence-building, and plenty of time to process new experiences.

My new family should follow the 3-3-3 rule of thumb when bringing me home. The first few days, weeks, and months can all look different as I decompress, learn my new routine, and gradually become more confident. Please don't expect me to walk into a new home and immediately act like the happy, outgoing puppy I may eventually become. The real me is going to take some time to come out.

Because of that, I would probably do best with someone who has the patience and understanding to help a shy puppy build confidence. I'm probably not the best choice for a first-time dog owner or a home with young children, where the activity and expectations may be more than I'm ready for right now. A calm household that can give me predictable routines, gentle encouragement, and lots of positive experiences would be ideal.

I do seem to do well with other small dogs, which can be helpful as I learn about the world. And although I came here with my two brothers, we are not attached at the hip. We each have our own personalities and are learning to be individuals.

I'm still a work in progress, but I'm already showing the people here that there is a sweet little puppy underneath those nerves. If you have the patience to let me grow into myself instead of rushing me to be confident before I'm ready, I could become a wonderful little companion.

Slow. Steady. Kind. That's what I need. And I promise I'm worth getting to know.

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
