Meet Redford!

At about a year old and 39 pounds, Redford is the perfect "just right" size-not too big, not too small. This handsome mixed-breed boy came to Canine Collective from a rural Ohio shelter, where he spent much of his puppyhood waiting for his chance at a home. Now that he's getting out and experiencing more of the world, we're discovering what an absolutely delightful young dog he is!

Redford is incredibly sweet, affectionate and friendly. He loves attention, happily sits for pets and is always ready to hand out kisses. He's even been known to wrap his front legs around his favorite people for a Redford-style hug! Several of our volunteers have spent time with him, and they all seem to come away saying the same thing: what a sweetheart.

When Redford first arrived, some ordinary experiences were clearly new to him. He needed a little help getting into a car and wasn't too sure about entering a crate, although he settled nicely once inside. But this boy is learning fast! Redford recently attended a busy adoption event filled with people, dogs, vendors, noise and activity-and he did fabulously. He happily explored the venue with a volunteer and took everything in stride.

And we discovered something else about Redford: this boy LOVES his toys! He found a favorite at the event and liked it so much that he carried it along in his mouth while he went for a stroll to check everything out. Apparently sightseeing is even better when you bring your own toy.

Redford has also done very well around other dogs and would likely enjoy having a friendly canine companion to play with. He's a young, energetic guy and can be strong on leash, so he'll benefit from continued practice with his leash manners.

Perhaps the nicest thing about Redford is his gentle, easygoing nature. He's very affectionate, easy to handle and cooperative even when he's unsure about something. Give him a little encouragement and he's willing to try-and every new experience seems to bring out a little more of his happy, playful personality.
