OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found.

Lisa (20261013-02)
DOB: 08/15/2024 Estimated
Age: 2 years
Weight: 21-30 lbs
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Lisa was named after the Simpsons character by one of our volunteers because of Lisa’s dimpled little wrinkly smile. Lisa is a true gem of a dog – playful and fun, but also very affectionate and loving. She runs up to greet everyone that comes through the gate and happily bounces at your feet for a pet. She will happily sit by your side for some cuddles, or chase a ball around, and roughhouse with her doggy friends.
Lisa unfortunately had a really rough start to her life. She was rescued along with her siblings from a hoarding situation. She was found next to her mom who was unfortunately deceased. Lisa was only two months old at the time and full of worms, covered in ticks and fleas. After arriving at the shelter and receiving the medical care that she needed, she quickly blossomed and fit right in.
Lisa is a sweet, social dog who gets along well with both people and other dogs. She can be a little bit shy and fearful at first, particularly in unfamiliar situations, but given a little bit of time she quickly adjusts. With other dogs, Lisa generally avoids conflict. She never seeks out or initiates conflict and communicates well with other dogs. Lisa is working on learning how to walk on a leash. She can be hesitant and fearful on leash, but she has already made progress. Continued patient, positive leash training at her own pace will be important.
Lisa does not show food aggression toward people. Because of her previous environment, where food could be a limited and competitive resource among dogs, structured feeding and providing each dog with a secure space to eat would be recommended, particularly during her transition. She will benefit from a patient, predictable home that gives her time to understand her new surroundings without putting pressure on her. As her confidence grows, she has shown a good capacity to adapt and become increasingly comfortable.
Medical Notes: Treated for ehrlichia and anaplasmosis

Good with women: Yes
Good with kids: Yes, older children recommended as her interactions with kids has been limited
Good with other dogs: Yes, she is great with other dogs
Good with cats: Unknown
House trained: Unknown, she has never been in a house before, however in the area that she is currently living in, there is an interior and exterior area and she knows to go to the bathroom outside on the gravel, versus on the tiled area where she sleeps. House training will be required when she is introduced into a home environment.
Crate trained: No
Energy level: Medium
Can be handled/touched: Yes, she did well for her grooming and vet examination. She seeks affection from people.
Barker: Occasionally, she will join in with other dogs barking

Extra precautions should be taken to ensure she cannot escape a home or vehicle while she settles in.
Food aggressive: No
Walks on leash: In progress, walking on leash is currently challenging for her, although she has already shown improvement with practice
Leash reactive to people or dogs: No
Rides well in car: Yes, she has had limited experience riding in cars but was calm on a recent car ride
Destructive: No known destructive behaviours
Needs a home with a yard: Preferred
Needs a home with another dog: Preferred, would benefit from having another dog around to show her the ropes but would also be okay on her own
Can live in an apartment: Possibly
