Milton, Delaware
August 13th
female, small, baby

DESCRIPTION

Dog Name: Ruby Roo

Breed: Pittie/Chihuahua mix

Sex: female

Age: 4-5 months (born March 2026)

Weight: 12 lbs

Medical Needs: Ruby was born without fully formed front legs. She has upper “arms” to the elbows. She is also deaf.

She is scheduled for her spay on 9/29/26 at Georgetown Brandywine Valley SPCA. She will get her first rabies shot that day too. Keeping the appointment is a condition of adoption. Adopters must either live in DE or within 1 hour of where the appointment is, and must agree to keeping the appointment prior to a meet.

Housebroken: not yet but getting there.

Crate trained: She does great in the crate. Still learning to not potty in it.

Good in the car: She has only ever ridden in a crate in the car. Was calm and quiet. No car sickness

Energy level: Puppy! Play hard, nap hard!

Need a fenced in yard: No but she will require supervision.

Dog Friendly: yes

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No

Cat Friendly? She's still a puppy so she would learn to be.

Kid Friendly: yes

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with supervision.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Ruby Roo is something special! She is a little firecracker despite her disabilities. She is spunky and fearless! The most rambunctious of the litter and always up for a wrestling match. But she is also the bestest little cuddler. She is a great girl but has some very special requirements.

As mentioned above, Ruby Roo has deformed front legs. Currently, she gets around by walking on her elbows. She like to have soft things underfoot. She gravitates towards staying on soft rugs, blankets, and beds. Outside, she even tends to stay on the patio rug which lets me know that “walking” on the concrete patio hurts her elbows. As she grows, elbow walking may become problematic. We are working to teach her to stand with the hope that she could ultimately learn to walk on her back legs.

With that being said, her adopter should be prepared to purchase her a wheelchair which would run several hundred dollars. Also, her future home should have no steps in and out of the house (unless you plan to ALWAYS carry her) and a single story home would be best. She is a little princess that does love to be carried but is currently only 12 lbs. Her parents were around 30 lbs so the expectation is she could get that big. Therefore, she will require an adopter who is able to carry at least 30 lbs.

Ruby Roo is also deaf. With that comes challenges in training. She seems to pick up on vibrations sometimes so that may be one way to get her attention. But don't think that she is a quiet girl. She is going to bark at you to let you know what's up, lol.

Do you think you've got what it takes to care for this little diva?

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
