FERRET

Mixed Breed
🇺🇸
Fairfax, Virginia
April 15th
male, large, adult

DESCRIPTION

Ferret is a handsome, curious pup who came into the shelter a little unsure of the world but determined to figure it out one sniff at a time. In his kennel, he’s easy to leash and eager to go, trotting along with gentle zigzags as if he’s checking on everything at once. Out in the assessment room, he wanders around like an explorer charting new territory—aloof at first, but occasionally circling back for a quick pet before heading off on his next tiny mission. Toys don’t impress him much yet, but he’s far more interested in taking in the world around him than playing fetch.
Mealtime, however, is serious business for Ferret. He sits politely before digging in with enthusiastic, oversized bites, so giving him some peaceful space while he eats is the best way to help him feel safe and secure. When he met another dog, Ferret showed a charming mix of confidence and uncertainty—offering a cute play bow one moment, then bouncing back nervously the next. He’s trying his best to understand these social rules and would benefit from slow, patient introductions to other dogs.
Ferret is a friendly boy with a gentle spirit who simply needs more life experience and a little guidance. With dedicated training, thoughtful introductions, and adopters who can show him the ropes at his own pace, Ferret will blossom into the confident companion he’s meant to be. He’s ready for a fresh start—and a family who can help him grow.

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
