Meet Oso!

Oso may be a big, handsome guy with a serious-looking face, but don't let that adorable RBF fool you-just wait until you see him smile! Behind those soulful eyes is a goofy, affectionate boy with a giant heart and a whole lot of love to give.

Oso recently arrived in Bend from our friends and rescue partners at The Ranch, a rescue near Lake Chapala outside of Guadalajara, Mexico. His journey to a second chance began when a local man and his wife encountered him while out for a walk. Oso decided they were his people and followed them home. They tried to ignore their new four-legged admirer, but eventually their hearts won out. They welcomed him into their home, made sure he was vaccinated and neutered, and gave him a chance. But Oso is a BIG boy with a BIG personality, and his exuberance proved to be more than they could safely manage in their home. After one particularly enthusiastic moment when Oso accidentally knocked his human over, they realized he needed a different environment and reached out to The Ranch for help. And that's where Oso really started to blossom. When he first arrived at The Ranch, Oso was an excitable young man who had plenty of energy and enthusiasm to share with the world. He's still an active boy, but with some guidance, consistency, and the influence of a well-mannered canine roommate, he has learned how to settle down and become quite the gentleman. Oso has been participating in The Ranch's volunteer training program, and he's proving to be a wonderfully willing student. His volunteer reports that after just a few sessions, Oso was already walking nicely on leash without pulling and learning commands like sit, down, and stay. He's smart, eager to please, and clearly enjoys having a job to do.

He's also incredibly affectionate. Oso loves giving kisses, connecting with his people, and gazing into your eyes as if he's trying to tell you just how much he adores you. And then there are those eyes! Oso's left eye is a beautiful blue, while his right eye is a striking combination of blue and brown. Add his silky, luxurious coat, enormous fluffy paws, creamy white chest, white-tipped feet, and distinctive white stripe running from his snout up his face, and you've got one seriously handsome dog. But, Oso isn't looking for a beauty contest. What he really wants is a person or family who will appreciate the big, goofy, affectionate dog underneath all that gorgeous fur. He'll thrive with people who are ready to continue his training, provide regular exercise and enrichment, and help him channel all of his enthusiasm in positive ways. Because of his size and exuberant nature, Oso will do best with a family who is comfortable living with a large, active dog and understands that even the gentlest giant can accidentally be a little clumsy. With continued training and guidance, we think this handsome boy has all the makings of an incredible companion.

Oso has already come so far-and now he's ready for the part of his story he's been waiting for: finding his forever people.
