Meet Mia!
Please help us give a warm Pacific Northwest welcome to Mia! This wonderful pup is part of a very special group of lucky dogs making the incredible journey all the way from Armenia to begin their next chapter here in Bend, Oregon.
After such a long journey and so many changes, these dogs will be taking some time to decompress, settle into their new surroundings, and learn that they're finally safe. It's very common for dogs arriving from this part of the world to need extra patience, understanding, and time as they adjust to new people, routines, sights, sounds, and experiences. Every dog adapts at their own pace, and watching that transformation as they gain confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of rescue.
About Mia: Mia has grown to be the biggest of the pack, always calm and relaxed, walking at her own slow pace and staying loyally close. She loves affection and belly scratches, and despite her size she isn't aggressive in the slightest - open and friendly with both people and dogs. She leashes easily.
Backstory: In January 2026, Street Dog Hero received an email from an independent rescuer in Armenia who was fighting to save the lives of seven tiny puppies. These puppies had already endured more hardship in their first weeks of life than any dog should have to face. Born as a litter of nine, two of their siblings sadly did not survive, leaving seven puppies in desperate need of care and protection.
At just a few weeks old, the puppies faced another life-threatening challenge when they contracted parvovirus - a devastating illness that claims the lives of countless young dogs around the world. With intensive veterinary care, constant monitoring, and round-the-clock dedication from their rescuer, all seven puppies fought their way through and survived.
Their challenges did not stop there. These puppies also endured the harsh Armenian winter, where temperatures can drop as low as -15C (5F). Despite the freezing conditions, illness, and uncertainty surrounding their future, they persevered. Today, these once-fragile puppies are healthy, playful, and ready for the next chapter of their lives.
Their rescuer did everything possible to find them homes locally. They reached out to shelters, rescue organizations, and adoption networks throughout Armenia, but the country's limited animal welfare infrastructure made finding safe placements nearly impossible. After months of searching and refusing to give up, they reached out internationally in hopes of giving these puppies the future they deserved.
After connecting with our trusted contact in Armenia, Street Dog Hero began the process of bringing these puppies to safety. What followed was months of coordination - veterinary appointments, health checks, paperwork, travel arrangements, and countless details to make their journey possible.
One of the puppies was fortunate enough to find a home in Armenia, but the remaining six are now making their way to Bend, Oregon, where they will officially become part of the Street Dog Hero family.
Their journey is a reminder of the power of compassion across borders. From surviving freezing temperatures and a deadly virus to traveling thousands of miles for a second chance, these six puppies have already shown incredible resilience. They are a bit bigger now, but we cannot wait to continue to watch them grow, heal, and discover the loving homes they have always deserved.
As a foster home-based rescue, our first priority is getting them into a loving temporary foster homes where they can rest, decompress, and begin preparing for life with their forever families. Of course, if an approved adopter is already waiting, these dogs may be able to head directly into an in-home adoption trial with a potential new family.
Over the coming days and weeks, we'll be learning more about this pup's unique personality, likes, and all the little things that make him/her special. We'll continue sharing updates, new photos, and more of their story as he/she settles into life here in the Pacific Northwest.
If you think this pup might be the companion you've been waiting for, don't wait to submit your adoption application through our website! Many of our dogs receive multiple applications before they're even ready to head home, and becoming a pre-approved adopter gives you the best opportunity to be considered.
Please join us in welcoming him/her to Oregon and wishing them all the very best as they begin their exciting new adventures.
Will you be Mia's lucky hero?
