Doritos - A Little Crunch, A Whole Lot of Cuteness, and a Future Full of Possibilities!
Doritos
Male | 5 Months Old
Red/Mahogany Miniature Poodle
Warning: This little snack-sized sweetheart may cause excessive smiling, uncontrollable puppy kisses, and an overwhelming desire to bring him home! Meet Doritos, a precious Miniature Poodle puppy who's ready to find a family to love him through all of life's adventures.
Doritos is a happy little guy who is good with other dogs and kids. He's still a puppy, so he's got plenty of growing, learning, playing, and mischief ahead of him! He deserves a family who will help him experience all the wonderful things puppyhood should bring.
But we need to talk about something important regarding Doritos' health.
Doritos has Grade 4 bilateral patellar luxation.
That's a big medical term for a condition affecting his kneecaps. The patella is the small bone that normally sits in a groove at the front of the knee. With patellar luxation, the kneecap sits out of its normal position. Bilateral means both knees are affected.
Doritos has a Grade 4 luxation in both knees, which is the most severe grade. His X-rays showed that his kneecaps are positioned on the opposite side of where they should normally sit, outside their proper alignment. This is a significant orthopedic abnormality, even though it isn't currently stopping him from getting around on his own.
The good news? Doritos is not currently showing signs of pain and can move around independently without a wheelchair or cart!
At this time, surgery is not recommended. Because he's still growing, his future orthopedic needs will depend on how he develops and whether his condition causes pain or limits his mobility as he gets older.
Once Doritos is fully grown, if he develops pain or significant mobility issues, his adopter can consult with a veterinary orthopedic specialist to determine whether surgery to attempt to correct the position of his kneecaps is appropriate. There is no guarantee surgery would fully correct the condition or prevent future complications, and any future surgery would be the adopter's financial responsibility.
We want to be honest about Doritos' medical needs because finding the right home is about more than falling in love with his adorable face. It's about finding someone who understands his condition, is prepared for the possibility of future veterinary care, and will make decisions based on what's best for him.
What Doritos needs in his forever home:
A loving family willing to give him the best quality of life possible.
A home with compatible dog friends is welcome!
A family with kids is welcome, too.
An adopter committed to monitoring his mobility and working with a veterinarian as he grows.
Someone who understands his orthopedic condition and is financially prepared for potential future treatment.
A family who will love him for exactly who he is, not just for what his future might look like.
Adoption Details:
Doritos is already neutered.
He is up to date on his vaccines.
Approved out-of-state adopters are welcome, but transportation is the adopter's responsibility.
Doritos didn't ask for his knees to be built differently. He's just a puppy who deserves the chance to grow up surrounded by love, comfort, and people who will advocate for him every step of the way.
His future may look a little different from that of other puppies, but different doesn't mean he can't have a wonderful life. We want him to have every opportunity to be happy, comfortable, and cherished.
Could you be the special person who gives this little guy the future he deserves?
