Scout - Miniature Poodle and Maltese Dog for Adoption in Boulder, Colorado

There's nothing quite like young dog sweetness and silliness, and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm breath. These gorgeous pups are so pure and vulnerable with their whole lives lying in front of them, that it's unbearable to think of them in a scary high-kill shelter with euthanasia a possibility due to lack of space.

Scout is a sweet as can be 1 year old, 13 lb Miniature Poodle / Maltese mix who is just waiting to be the love of someone's life. Farfel's can't swear to the accuracy of his breed mix as no DNA test was done. It was the opinion of Texas veterinarians and we're going to stay with their educated guess.

Scout is starting out with great energy. While initially just a bit shy due to all the changes in his life, this sweet guy is blossoming with his rescuer. Now at one year old, Scout's self esteem is growing every day as he learns that he's a very valuable guy that has so much to offer a dog-loving family.

Scout's non-shedding coat was filthy and matted when he arrived at the shelter. This necessitated a shave down to the skin. Scout couldn't have been happier with his new freedom from deep mattes that finally allowed him to move freely and without pain.

Scout was not only groomed but surgery was also performed to remove his eye. While we were never given the exact reason for that removal, we do know that it was necessary to give this amazing pup a pain-free life. Scout is so happy with this change. He can now run, play and be a young goofy guy without the pain he had experienced previously.

This sweet guy, with a gorgeous shed-free coat (excellent for those with allergy concerns ) will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition. Current research is very clear that the best diet we can provide for our pets is a fresh, human grade natural diet. Farfel's recommends Chi Diet (chidog.com) due to our personal experience with our own dogs. It's one of the most important choices we make for our dogs great health and longevity.

Scout is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his age. He's also very loving and cuddly once comfortable in his new environment. This happy go lucky, playful little guy (once comfortable in his new home) would be very excited to play and have so much fun, and then at day's end, to be a couch potato and snuggle with his favorite people at the end of an active day. it's clear that this pup is SO smart and very sweet - very typical of the Maltipoo personality. Some would say this breed mix is among the most lntelligent and cuddly in the dog world making them perfect candidates to be excellent family companions.

Since Scout is just a young guy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome and loving best friend. Scout will form firm bonds with his family and learn socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a young dog's ultimate behavior and in his relationship / bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment, yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.

Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Scout out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area.

Farfel's is open to Scout finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart young dog. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for a pup that would love nothing more than getting loved up periodically throughout the day.

Scout enjoys his relationships with all humans. We would prefer, however, to place him in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment by a young child will create a dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can also be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development.

Scout will be up to date on his vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support Farfel's commitment to a euthanasia - free future in the canine population.

They are then transported by specially licensed vans to Colorado for a second chance at life.
