Meet RUFUS (yes… like that Rufus… but sadly, without Chaka Khan)
Rufus is currently being fostered in the Houston, Texas area, but please don’t let geography close your heart. Transport is easy, fast, and safe — what matters most is that Rufus is seen, and that the right person chooses him. We have a fantastic Transporter who can bring him to you if you are that person.
Once upon a time, there was a little dog wandering the streets…
Not just any dog.
A fluffy, scruffy, one-big-mop-of-a-dog named Rufus.
Now Rufus didn’t have a band.
He didn’t have backup singers.
And he definitely didn’t have Chaka Khan.
But what he did have…
…was heart.
When Rufus was found, he looked like he had been on his own for quite a while.
His fur was tangled, his look a little wild—
like he had been starring in his own off-Broadway production titled:
“How Did I End Up Out Here?”
But even then…
his tail wagged.
At about 1–2 years old and weighing around 17 pounds, Rufus is what we believe to be a Maltipoo mix—
a perfect blend of brains, fluff, and just a little bit of chaos.
The good kind.
Rufus LOVES other dogs.
Not in a polite, quiet way…
In a “LET’S PLAY RIGHT NOW THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER” kind of way.
He’s still got plenty of puppy energy and is always ready to run, bounce, chase, and repeat.
But don’t let the playful side fool you—
Rufus is also a smart little guy.
He’s curious, engaging, and always trying to figure things out.
He comes when called (yes, really),
is crate trained,
and is doing really well with both leash walking and potty training.
He’s learning fast…
because he wants to be a good boy.
And affection?
Oh, Rufus has that in abundance.
He doesn’t just like people—
He loves them.
The kind of love where he looks at you like you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to him…
Because maybe… you are.
Rufus would do great in a home with or without other dogs,
but because he’s still polishing up his manners and enthusiasm for life,
he’d probably do best in a home without very young kiddos.
He’s not naughty—
Just a little… enthusiastic.
These days, Rufus is:
- Neutered
- Microchipped
- Heartworm negative
- Up to date on vaccines
- And very much ready for his next chapter
So no… he may not have Chaka Khan…
But Rufus does have something pretty special.
A joyful spirit.
A loving heart.
And a second chance at the life he was always meant to have.
And if you listen closely…
You might just hear it…
A little voice saying:
“Ain’t nobody… loves you better…”
Rufus is ready.
All he’s missing… is you.

Understanding transport: Once everything is all approved, dogs are scheduled on transport using AJC Rescue & Transport (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083418067425). Transport means dogs are carefully and thoughtfully moved via scheduled air conditioned/heated vans from our doggy ranch in Fulshear, TX to a location near you. Each transport consists of a team of two drivers who can alternate. This is how we communicate in real time. The driver who is not driving, will be updating the group chat. You will be included in this group chat to track your dog through transport. You will also be given exact location and scheduled time of arrival. Our drivers do everything possible to run on-time however, things such as traffic, weather etc. can affect arrival time. You will updated regarding delays or possible early arrival. Keep in mind, dogs on transport stop for bathroom, walk and food breaks. For safety, all dogs are crated during transport.
We use what we think is the best dog transport service in the region and have for years - Andrea and her crew really offer first class transport!
