Hi, I’m Teddy!
I didn’t arrive with this name, but my foster sister thought I looked like a big golden teddy bear, and I wear it proudly now. I’m sweet and cuddly like one, too! The first thing I did at my foster home was stretch out on my foster brother’s lap and let him rub my belly. Right now, I’m squeezed into the corner of the couch beside my foster mom while she types my story. Being close to my people is my favorite place to be.
I love people. Men, women, older kids, people in hats, people with mustaches, delivery people—even people in uniforms! I haven’t met any young children here, but I’m a big, enthusiastic guy whose spatial awareness could use some work. I might accidentally knock a little one over, so a home with older children would be a better fit.
My next favorite thing? Dogs! I love running around with my little foster brother. I try to be careful because he’s tiny, although sometimes my enthusiasm gets ahead of my feet. One of my furry foster grandmas isn’t quite as impressed with me. When she shows her teeth and asks for space, I walk away. Nobody needs to bother a cranky grandma, especially when there are humans available for cuddles.
I’m also quite the jumper. If there’s no easy way off the couch, I’ll launch myself over the arm. I’ve been known to leap onto the bed from the doorway or hop over my foster brother instead of bowling him over. My foster mom calls it “yeeting myself.” Whatever you call it, I have a little more athletic ability than grace.
I was quiet when I first arrived in Vermont, but now that I’m comfortable, my personality is coming out. I love running in the yard and especially enjoy when people walking by stop at the fence to give me a scratch. Their dogs are welcome to say hello, too. I do bark at passing cars and make myself heard sometimes. I’m a dog, after all!
I haven’t met any cats in my foster home because my foster mom is allergic. But I do like chasing things that run, so she suspects cats might be a little too tempting. For now, my feelings about feline roommates are unknown.
Sometimes I go to work with my foster mom, where I settle under her desk and greet visitors. I like to put my front paws on the counter to get a better look at everyone. We may need to discuss office etiquette, but I do enjoy making people smile! I also visit the room where people work on computers, collect a few scratches, and stretch out on the floor. Occasionally, someone shares a little lunch with me. I’m still filling out, and I’m very gentle when taking food.
My foster mom thinks my love of people could make me a good candidate for therapy work someday, with the right training. For now, I’m working on the basics. I haven’t mastered walking at heel, and sometimes I pull when I’m excited. I’m also learning to sit and wait while my food bowl is put down. Apparently, I’m still a work in progress.
I eat my meals in my crate and don’t mind going in, but I’m not thrilled about staying there for long stretches. Can you blame me when there’s a perfectly good couch nearby?
I’m housebroken, and I haven’t chewed anything I shouldn’t in my foster home. See? I do have manners.
My foster mom thinks I could be happy with other dogs or as your one and only, as long as I have plenty of company and don’t spend long days alone. I’d love a yard for running or someone who enjoys taking me on long walks. Some training would be great, too—I’m smart, and keeping my brain busy helps me as much as stretching my legs.
But after the walks, the playtime, and the adventures, what I want most is a spot beside you on the couch.
