Meet Chevy!

Chevy is a very special little island pup looking for his forever family! This handsome boy is an Arubian Cunucu, born at a waste management facility in Aruba. Thankfully, he was rescued by New Life for Paws and made his way to the U.S., where he is currently being fostered in Blairstown, New Jersey and can be transported anywhere in the northeast..

Chevy is estimated to be about 6 months old and currently weighs around 20 pounds. He has the classic long, lean, athletic look of a Cunucu—and when you see this boy run, you’ll understand where those long legs come in handy. He is FAST!

Cunucus have a pretty fascinating history. They are believed to descend in part from Iberian Hounds brought to Aruba centuries ago that later mixed with local island dogs. The Arawak people are said to have used these athletic dogs to hunt iguanas through Aruba’s rugged, rocky terrain. So Chevy’s slender build, speed, agility and athleticism have some pretty cool island history behind them!

Personality-wise, Chevy is currently a total shadow dog. He follows his foster mom everywhere and loves being close to his person. He’s working on crate training and house training and is already learning quickly. He’s a smart young dog who would thrive with someone willing to continue his training while giving him plenty of exercise, enrichment and adventures.

Chevy gets along great with other dogs and is currently getting to know cats. So far, the cats definitely don’t have to worry about him chasing them—it’s actually the opposite. Chevy is a little intimidated by them and will run away when he sees them!

This sweet boy started his life in one of the least glamorous places imaginable, but thanks to rescue, he got his ticket off the island and a chance at something so much better.

Now he just needs the final piece of his story: a family of his own.
