Agatha is a beautiful 2–3-year-old German Shepherd mix, weighing about 45 pounds. She’s medium-sized and has a calm, loving personality to match.
A few things we love about Agatha:
* Gentle and affectionate
* Walks calmly on leash and stays close by your side
* Comes out of her crate quietly and politely
* Knows many commands
* Relaxed around other dogs; she met about 14 dogs on her first day
* Gentle with veterinary staff
* About 45 pounds
We’re still learning about Agatha around children. She showed interest in cats when they passed her crate at the vet, so we’ll need to assess that further. For now, a home without cats may be the best fit.
Agatha’s story
Agatha was found abandoned on a mountainside in Luquillo, Puerto Rico. When I first saw her, she was looking through a neighbor’s windows and trying to get into the house. It was clear she was searching for someone and somewhere she once knew.
We didn’t have space at the rescue, but for three days I kept passing her in the rain during tropical-storm season, and I couldn’t get her out of my mind. I finally went back for her. Rescue couldn’t have been easier: I put a leash on her, and she walked right into a crate with me.
Agatha tested positive for heartworm, and treatment has already started. We’re hoping to find her a foster or adopter in the States where she can rest comfortably while she finishes treatment. Upshot Dog Rescue will pay for her heartworm treatment and transport to the States. We can fly her just about anywhere in the country and will help coordinate her care.
