What we know: Single 1-year-old spayed Husky transferred from SPCA South Plains in Texas after being pulled from the euthanasia list. While in Texas, she tested positive for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia and was appropriately treated for both prior to transport. She arrived in Colorado already spayed and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Although she may continue to test positive on future screening tests due to prior exposure, she has been treated and, because she will not be used for breeding, this is not expected to cause any issues moving forward.

ABOUT: HUSKY DOG BREED
The husky breed is renowned for its striking appearance, characterized by piercing eyes and a thick double coat. These medium sized, energetic dogs are known for their friendly and outgoing personalities, making them wonderful companions for active families. Originally bred for sledding and endurance in cold climates, huskies are intelligent and independent, often displaying a strong prey drive. Proper training and regular exercise are crucial to keep these playful and social animals happy and well adjusted.
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
