Meet Badger!
Badger is a 5-month-old Great Pyrenees x Australian Shepherd mix... or at least that's our best guess! As always, your guess is probably just as good as ours. One thing we are pretty confident about is that this boy is going to be a big boy, so his future family better be ready for plenty of puppy growing, learning, and love!
Badger was found on Election Day, and apparently he had decided it was time to go in and make his own vote count! Unfortunately, it seems Badger didn't quite meet the voting criteria, because instead of getting a sticker and heading home, the Sheriff's Department came to pick him up. A little excessive, if you ask Badger, but he's trying not to hold it against them.
If Badger had been allowed to cast his ballot, we're pretty sure his platform would have been simple: "Vote for more treats, more playtime, and a forever home for every dog!" And honestly... we can't argue with that campaign.
Badger eventually landed in our care, and surprisingly, no one ever came looking for him. Their loss is someone's chance to gain one very special puppy!
This handsome guy is sweet, happy, affectionate, and playful. He can be a little nervous in the shelter environment, which is completely understandable for a young puppy surrounded by unfamiliar sights, sounds, people, and dogs. Once he's comfortable, though, his sweet personality starts to shine through.
Like any 5-month-old puppy, Badger is still very much a work in progress. His future family should be prepared for the fun-and sometimes messy-job of raising a big, energetic puppy. He'll need continued work on house training, crate training, leash skills, basic manners, and learning how to be a well-mannered member of the family. He'll also benefit tremendously from positive socialization as he grows: safely experiencing new people, places, sounds, surfaces, handling, car rides, and other appropriate experiences will help him become a confident adult dog.
And because Badger is likely going to be a BIG boy, now is the time to start teaching him that jumping, mouthing, and bulldozing people are not acceptable-even if he thinks he's just being adorable. Those puppy habits are a lot less cute when you have a 90-pound dog doing them! Consistency, patience, structure, and positive reinforcement will go a long way with this sweet guy.
Badger is looking for someone who is ready to enjoy all the goofy, chaotic, wonderful stages of puppyhood and help him grow into the amazing adult dog he's meant to be. If you're ready to vote YES on Badger, come meet this sweet boy!
