Foster Notes / Backstory:
Rufus is the definition of a gentle giant—soft-eyed, soulful, and quietly taking in the world around him.
Having only recently arrived in foster care, it’s clear he’s been through a lot of change in a short time. From life on the streets to boarding, transport, and now a home environment, he’s handling it all with a quiet resilience that’s impossible not to admire. He may be a big boy, but his heart is tender.

Rufus is naturally calm and prefers to observe before jumping in, often choosing a cozy rug, dog bed, or his crate as his safe place. He’s still getting used to indoor living—slippery floors can be a bit confusing—but each day you can see his confidence growing.
Outdoors is where Rufus really starts to relax. He enjoys slowly exploring the yard, often wandering the perimeter like a true guardian, searching for the perfect spot to settle in and watch the world go by. Recently, he even broke into a light jog while playing with a canine companion—a beautiful glimpse of the happy, carefree pup he’s becoming.

Rufus is wonderfully gentle with other dogs and even shares his space with cats without issue. While he doesn’t need another dog in the home, he certainly enjoys their company.
True to his breed, Rufus is an independent thinker—he’s not stubborn, just thoughtful, and will thrive with a patient adopter who understands and appreciates that nature.

Rufus is still building trust and learning routines, including leash walking and car rides, which can feel overwhelming right now. But with gentle encouragement and consistency, he’s already showing progress. Despite everything he’s been through, he remains incredibly sweet, kind, and open-hearted. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t demand attention—but quietly earns a permanent place in your heart.
With time, patience, and a loving home, Rufus will blossom into a loyal, steady companion who will always be nearby… calmly watching, protecting, and loving in his own gentle way.
