Meet Zoe!
Zoe is a sweet, sensitive girl with a loyal heart and a goofy personality once she feels comfortable. She's still a little shy with new people, but when she chooses her person, she wants to be wherever they are. While she's not much of a cuddler, she'll happily follow you from room to room, keep you company on the couch, and claim a spot on any bed bigger than a twin.
Zoe is fully house-trained and has only had one accident indoors due to an upset stomach. She's comfortable in a crate and spends part of the day resting in one while her family is away, though she's also trustworthy enough to free-roam when appropriate. She enjoys cozy, enclosed spaces and can often be found relaxing in her crate, under a recliner, or even in the bathtub. During storms, she prefers to find the highest hiding place possible—tables included!
She would be best described as medium energy. During her heartworm treatment, she's been content with a quieter lifestyle, though she still enjoys the occasional burst of zoomies. She's decent on leash, knows basic commands like "sit" and "down," and is learning helpful skills like "go around" when her leash gets wrapped around trees or poles.
Zoe gets along well with respectful dogs after proper introductions. She currently coexists peacefully with a resident corgi and has previously done well with another larger dog. She's a little nervous around unfamiliar dogs at first but improves with patience and slow introductions. She can also live with cats—she's generally cautious around them and has no interest in chasing.
Because she's sensitive and likes her personal space respected, Zoe would do best with older children or dog-savvy kids who understand boundaries. She's only ever given a warning growl when several young children rushed up to her all at once, and she was perfectly comfortable interacting with them individually.
One thing Zoe won't hide is her voice! She's not much of a barker, usually only sounding the alarm for a doorbell or squirrel, but she loves to howl. Tornado sirens, emergency vehicles, family "pack howls," or even being ignored when she'd prefer attention can all inspire a chorus from this vocal girl.
Zoe isn't interested in most dog toys, but cat toys, soft baby toys, and anything her canine roommate has already approved of are fair game. She absolutely loves chicken—especially chicken jerky—and treats in general. Prospective adopters should know that chicken is her greatest weakness, so unattended food should stay out of reach while she continues practicing her manners.
She enjoys being brushed, tolerates nail trims best with plenty of encouragement (and a dedicated petting assistant), and isn't a fan of baths, thunderstorms, or heavy rain. She's also selective about new people, particularly some men, and takes time to build trust. Once she decides you're safe, though, you'll have a devoted shadow for life.
Zoe is looking for a patient adopter who appreciates a gentle, quirky dog and understands that the best relationships take time to build. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will follow you everywhere, sing along with sirens, and happily share your bed, Zoe may be your perfect match.
