Hi, I’m Rufus!

I’m a 2-year-old German Shepherd weighing about 94 pounds, and I have some exciting news: I’m officially in Illinois! I’m currently in training, where I’m showing everyone what a very good boy I am while I get ready for the family I’ve been waiting for.

My road here wasn’t easy. I was adopted and later ended up back as a stray, not once, but twice. The second time, I arrived at the shelter wearing a shock collar so tight it had to be cut off, leaving wounds around my neck. Despite everything, I remained friendly, loving, and trusting. The shelter staff saw the good dog underneath everything that had happened to me, and now I finally have the chance to show everyone else too.

I love people, I’ve done well with other dogs, and I’ve lived in a home before. I’m a big, strong Shepherd, but underneath all 94 pounds is a loyal, affectionate boy who wants to belong to someone. And now, with training under my belt and Illinois beneath my paws, I’m closer than ever to finding my forever.

I’ve done enough starting over. This time, I’m ready to stay. Come meet me and see what a very good boy I really am.
