Mimi Honey Lou is the kind of girl who makes you want to slow down, climb into bed, and spend the entire day snuggling beside her. She is beautiful, mellow, and incredibly gentle, with a quiet sweetness that becomes even more special as she begins to trust you. Mimi may need a little time to feel comfortable in a new environment, but once she opens her heart, she loves deeply and wholeheartedly. After everything she has been through, watching her discover how wonderful life as a family dog can be is truly something special.

Mimi is approximately 3 years old and currently weighs around 63 pounds. We believe she may be a German Shepherd Dog mix, but with animal rescue, breed and age are always a mystery and our best guesses.
Mimi has spent time around children approximately 4 to 7 years old and has been nothing but gentle with them as well. Because she has such a sweet and mellow nature, she has the potential to make a wonderful addition to a family with children. This lovely girl can be a little shy around new people, especially when she is also adjusting to an unfamiliar environment. She simply needs patience and time to understand that she is safe. Once she settles in, her affectionate side begins to shine. Mimi is a huge cuddle bug who loves snuggling in bed and being close to her people. She is also perfectly happy lounging by a window and quietly watching the world go by. It really does not take much to make her happy. Right now, her greatest love languages are snuggles and simply being included.
Mimi is dog friendly and has done great with the dogs we have introduced her to. She is currently fostered in a multi-dog household with both big and small dogs and gets along wonderfully with everyone. She is not usually the type to jump straight into playtime with a brand-new friend. If another dog comes in a little too rambunctiously, she may offer a subtle correction to politely ask for some space, but her communication is always fair and gentle. When she finds a friend who is more her speed, she will happily play and has a soft, easygoing playstyle. She truly is gentle in everything she does.
She has also met our house cat, Biggie, and handled the introduction beautifully. Mimi was appropriate and respectful, did not attempt to chase him, and was not bothered by Biggie jumping around or doing normal cat things. Biggie felt comfortable around her too! We do not know whether Mimi has ever lived with a cat, and this was our first time seeing her interact with one. If you have a cat at home, we can arrange for her to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know!
Mimi likes treats and takes them very gently, although she has not shown much interest in toys yet. She is crate trained and comfortable relaxing in her crate when she uses it. She has also done amazingly well with potty training and has not had a single accident in her foster home. Her foster considers her fully potty trained. She is also a wonderful car passenger and rides quietly. If you have a taller vehicle, Mimi may need a little boost getting in and out, but once she is inside, she settles in beautifully and is ready to accompany you wherever the day takes you.
Mimi is a tripod, but she certainly does not seem to realize she is missing a leg! She was found with an injured leg, and unfortunately, we do not know what happened to her. What we do know is that she has shown us just how resilient she is. She is already adjusting incredibly well and acts like she still has all four legs. She can run, explore, enjoy time outside, and manage small flights of stairs without a problem. We believe Mimi would thrive in a home with a backyard where she can spend time outside, explore at her own pace, and enjoy the company of other dogs. Because she is so calm and relaxed, she may also have the potential to do well in an apartment. Her future family would simply need to be mindful of how many stairs are involved. A quieter neighborhood outside the heart of a busy city would likely be the most comfortable fit for this sensitive girl.
Mimi did not have the easiest beginning, but she has never allowed it to take away her tenderness. She is learning what it means to feel safe, sleep in a cozy bed, and belong to a family, and she is taking every new experience in stride. Mimi does not need an extravagant life to be happy. She just needs patience, security, a comfortable place near the window, and people who will love her as deeply as she will love them. Once this sweet girl gives you her heart, she gives you every bit of it
We are willing to test Mimi Honey Lou with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know.

At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready.
