Duke Doxie is 14 years old, 26 pounds, and an exquisitely low-slung Dachshund/Beagle/Chihuahua mix who appears to have misunderstood several fundamental principles of aging.
Specifically, the part where you're supposed to act old.
Duke runs. Duke plays with his foster siblings. Duke swims. He patrols the yard with an absolutely magnificent little hop in his step, despite being somewhat vision and hearing impaired. At fourteen, this gentleman is operating with reduced audiovisual equipment but absolutely no corresponding reduction in joie de vivre.
He's dog friendly, kid friendly, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Cats are not included in the Duke Doxie Extended Universe. He has reviewed them and would prefer we change the subject.
And then there is Lambchop.
Lambchop is Duke's beloved stuffy and will be accompanying him to his new home because separating a fourteen-year-old man from his emotional-support lamb would be barbarism of the highest order. Please understand that you are not adopting one individual. This is a package acquisition.
Duke was deeply loved before coming to Take Paws, and he deserves to spend this next part being just as ridiculously adored. Not because he's fourteen. Because he is funny, affectionate, spirited, gloriously peculiar, and still having a damn good time being Duke Doxie.
He doesn't need someone to give him a good ending.
He needs someone who understands this little dude is very much still in the middle of the good part.

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs:
https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt
Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application.
*An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application*
All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).
The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.
For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page:
