Meet Zachariah-a 4-year-old Dachshund mix with a gentle, sensitive soul and a heart that's quietly waiting to bloom. Weighing just 9 pounds, he may be small, but he's making meaningful strides every day as he builds confidence in the world around him.
Zachariah enjoys spending time with other dogs and truly benefits from their companionship. Through positive social interactions and group play, he's learning appropriate social cues and gaining confidence. Because of this, he will need to go to a home with another confident, well-adjusted dog who can help show him the ropes and provide reassurance.
He is still learning to trust people and will need a committed adopter who is willing to go slow, build a strong bond, and help him feel safe through consistent, positive experiences. Zachariah can be sensitive with handling and will thrive with a calm, patient adopter-ideally someone experienced with shy or under-socialized dogs-who understands the importance of respecting his boundaries and moving at his pace.
A secure, fenced-in yard is required so Zachariah can safely explore, run, and continue building confidence in his environment.
To ensure the best possible match, an in-person meet and greet at the kennel will be required for Zachariah and any potential adopters.
With time, patience, and love, Zachariah has so much potential to grow into a devoted and loyal companion.

Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!
