S'mores - Cocker Spaniel Dog for Adoption in Austin, Texas

ome dogs are born knowing exactly what they want out of life. S'mores has figured it out: a lap, a squeaky ball, and her person within arm's reach. Honestly, that sounds like a pretty good life to us.
S'mores is a petite 8-year-old black Cocker Spaniel with a tiny body, a BIG personality, and an impressive talent for becoming completely attached to her favorite humans. She is the ultimate lap dog and absolutely loves being with her person (or persons). If there's an available lap, S'mores is likely already making plans for it.
Her start in life was anything but sweet. S'mores and several other Cockers were dumped together by a lake, and one of the dogs eventually wandered into a nearby yard and was found drowning in a neighbor's pool. We suspect these dogs were used for breeding, and poor S'mores appears to have spent much of her life confined to a crate, sitting in her own urine. When she arrived, she had hair loss and a skin infection, but thankfully, that chapter of her life is behind her. She is recovering beautifully, and her hair is finally filling back in.
But despite everything, she is so incredibly sweet. She is smart, observant, and very tuned in to what's happening around her. She's the kind of little dog who notices everything--and once she decides you're her person, prepare yourself for a whole lot of love.
S'mores gets along well with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends around. Cats are an unknown at this point. She is still working on her potty training, so her forever family will need to be patient and willing to continue helping her master that part of being a house dog.
She also LOVES to fetch, with a particular weakness for squeaky balls. And then there's her signature feature: we call her the "Whoop Whoop Girl." Every now and then, instead of giving you a conventional bark, S'mores lets out a little whoop, whoop! It's impossible not to smile when she does it. Because of this, a home without shared walls is ideal.
S'mores may have had a rough start, but she's learning what it means to be safe, loved, comfortable, and cared for. She's discovering soft beds, good food, squeaky toys, and--best of all--the joy of having a person of her very own.
She's basically the sweetest little S'mores you could ask for: a little toasted around the edges from a difficult past, but underneath it all, soft, sweet, and ready to melt into your lap.
S'mores is looking for someone who will give her the rest of her life to make up for the beginning. And preferably, someone with a very comfortable lap.
