Maggie - Chocolate Labrador Retriever Dog for Adoption in Hays, Kansas

Say hello to Maggie, the ultimate party pup! Maggie is a two year old Labrador Retriever who has the typical Lab energy and the stunning chocolate coloring. Maggie is as loving as she is beautiful, and she needs a home that is as active as she is to help burn some of that excess energy. In fact, that's why she finds herself here with us. Maggie can be mouthy during playtime, and her style is sheer exuberance -not even kinda gentle or laid back. Her previous owners were older and were struggling to physically navigate this gal given her rough and tumble nature. We agree that Maggie would do best in a younger home where nobody can get easily hurt if they are knocked over or scratched, and where the family members have enough energy of their own to keep up with a lil tornado like Maggie Girl!

Maggie has spent her life as an outdoor dog, so she hasn't received tons of training. Her previous owner says she knows a few basic commands, but that's about it. She is not well mannered or housebroken. These are easily corrected issues, but it will require someone dedicated to training her and putting the time and effort in. On Maggie's end, she adores her people and is eager to please. So with the right motivation, she should be quite readily molded into a proper young lady.

Maggie has not been exposed much...to almost anything, really. She doesn't know the expectations within a home or around people. She's not been around children to any degree. She has not met cats at all. She has not been around or lived with other dogs. So all of that is just a giant unknown at this point. We suggest meet and greets before bringing her home around other pets. And of course always bring any children of the home with you when selecting your next canine family member. Best case scenario, Maggie is a clean slate and will be mesmerized and overjoyed at all of these things! But sometimes lack of knowledge in an area can lead to fears or insecurity, so we simply cannot say how she will react for certain. Hopefully in time we can get to know her better and start testing some of that out.

This precious pup is already spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She is reported to know sit, stay, and down. She will also wait for the verbal release before taking a treat out of your hand (only if you tell her to wait, of course). She is also fairly skilled at catching frisbees mid-air -something not every dog can do, or will even attempt to do, for that matter!

This energetic gal is all about fun and is ready to turn any room into her personal playground. Maggie’s playful spirit knows no bounds, and she loves nothing more than a vigorous game that lets her unleash her inner athlete. One thing is for sure: Maggie’s enthusiasm is contagious! Her zest for life and adventurous nature mean she’s always up for a new challenge.
