Meet our newest puppy Louie.
In early May, Chihuahua Rescue & Transport received an emergency call for help from a Good Samaritan trying to find a safe place for a neighbors two very pregnant Chihuahuas. They were living in the backyard with no shelter from rain or hot temps. The two Moms were about to give birth anytime. CRT jumped into action and rescued both pregnant Moms that day (Lola and ChiChi). Three days later, on Mothers Day, Lola had four puppies: Daisy, Huey, Dewey and Louie.
Louie is delightful. He gets along well with the small dogs in his foster home. He will wrestle and play every day. He also loves toys! Louie loves his foster family. When he is not busy playing he runs over (at full speed) and crawls up on your lap looking for belly rubs and love.
These puppies were born on May 10th. He weighs about 2 pounds and will continue to grow. His Mom (Lola) is about 6.5 pounds so we estimate that these puppies will be about 5 7 pounds when fully grown. Note we have no idea who the Dad is. Louie has a beautiful tri-color coat. It is a medium-to-long coat. Dont worry about the puppies chunky monkey look — it is completely normal! Puppies go through some adorable, round-bellied stages as they grow, and theyll naturally develop a leaner, more proportionate body as they mature. For now, were just enjoying all that extra puppy cuteness!
Here is our projected vet schedule for this set of puppies:
May 10, 2026 Born
June 20, 2026 First set of puppy vaccinations and dewormer completed
July 20, 2026 (est) Second set of puppy vaccinations
Aug 17, 2026 (est) Final set of puppy vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipped
They will need a few days to recover and heal and will be ready for adoption in mid-to-late August!
These puppies are very smart. Due to their vaccination status, we are currently training them to potty on puppy pads. At night, Louie sleeps in a dog bed in an ex-pen with his sister Daisy. Due to his vaccination status, we have not begun to train him on a harness and leash yet.
Louies ideal home will be one with a high activity level. He would love to have another small dog (maybe 1 4 years old) to play with. Applications will not be considered where he will be the only dog. Louie will need a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). He would be great in a home where theres a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. Louie does not bark much at this age. Due to his tiny size, we recommend a home with small dogs only. There are no children in his foster home, but he loves people and we think he will do well with children 10 and older.
Reminder that while puppies are undeniably adorable, they also represent a long-term commitment. Small breed dogs often live 1520 years, and were looking for a family thats excited to love, guide, and care for this puppy through every stage of life—from playful puppyhood to their senior years.
We adore this little guy, and know there is a perfect family out there for him. If you love to have fun and then cuddle, Louie wants to be your BFF. His vet work will be completed in mid-August, and he will be ready for his forever home at that time. We are accepting applications now.
