Adoptable small breed puppy alert! At just 12 weeks old, Sawyer is a little guy with a whole lot of growing left to do! His mama Sophie weighs just 10 pounds, and Sawyer is expected to weigh around 15–20 pounds full grown.
Sawyer and his six siblings came into rescue after their mama was saved from living on the streets in over 100-degree temperatures while she was extremely pregnant. Thankfully, these babies were born safely in their foster home, where they’ve been surrounded by love and care from the very beginning. Now it’s Sawyer’s turn to find a family who will love him forever!
A Little About Sawyer
Sawyer is everything you would expect from a small breed puppy:
Sassy
Silly
Spunky
Curious about absolutely EVERYTHING!
But Sawyer has a softer, more sensitive side, too. He is the shyest of his litter and tends to take a little more time to warm up to new people and situations. He is a very loving boy, but you’ll need to earn his trust rather than expect him to be an instant best friend. Once he feels safe and comfortable, that sweet side has room to shine!
Sawyer also prefers to keep all four paws on the floor rather than being carried around. He’ll appreciate a family that respects his boundaries, lets him approach on his own terms, and gives him the time and encouragement he needs to build confidence.
Sawyer and his siblings spend their days investigating the world around them, wrestling and running together, playing with toys, and exploring outside. They especially enjoy finding leaves and sticks to carry around like their own little treasures. And after a busy day of puppy adventures? It’s time to pile into a fluffy dog bed for some serious snuggle-and-nap time.
Sawyer’s favorite things include:
Playing with toys
Wrestling and running with his siblings
Exploring outside and stealing leaves and sticks
Puppy treats
Affection and snuggles when he’s comfortable
Long, cozy naps
What kind of home does Sawyer need?
Sawyer is still a baby, which means he’s learning all about the world, including potty training and household manners. He’s working hard in his foster home, but his tiny bladder means he currently needs potty breaks every 3–4 hours during the day and once overnight.
His forever family should be prepared for the time, patience, consistency, and structure that come with raising a puppy. The adorable puppy stage is full of fun, but it also takes commitment to help these little ones grow into well-mannered adult dogs!
Sawyer will need a home with another playful, accepting dog. He does well with other small dogs and cats.
Because Sawyer is a little more reserved, he would do best in a calmer, low-key home with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs. A busy, high-energy household where he is constantly picked up or expected to socialize before he’s ready may be overwhelming for him. He needs a family willing to let him settle in at his own pace, respect his space, and celebrate the little steps as his confidence grows.
Sawyer may not be the puppy who runs up to every stranger looking for attention, but for the person willing to be patient and earn his trust, he will become an incredibly special companion. Sometimes the sweetest bonds are the ones that take a little time to build.
A little note about adoption: We are not first come, first served! We carefully review applications to find the very best match for each puppy and their future family. Our goal is a forever home that truly fits both the adopter and the dog.
Sawyer is neutered, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention.
