Queenie the Chiweenie - Chihuahua and Dachshund Dog for Adoption in Houston, Texas

Queenie is a 2 year old chiweenie who is a silly, playful, toy-loving little girl, once she feels comfortable enough to open up.

She is shy in new situations and can take a few days to decompress in a new setting. But, once she is comfortable, she shows us her young dog, silly side. She loves to play fetch, chew on toys, run around the house, cuddle and get belly rubs.

She takes a minute to warm up to new people, but once she feels safe, she is a friendly and loving girl.

Queenie currently lives in a foster home with 2 dachshunds and a cat. She is cautious with the dogs and has shown some resource guarding behavior around toys and beds. She has done very well with the cat. She would be best as the only dog in the home to avoid any conflict. But, she can live peacefully with a cat!

She is working on potty training - she still has the occasional accident but she has learned to tel her human her signs: excessive licks, pacing around and has also started to wait by the back door when she needs to go.

She does well in her crate when it is part of the action - she does not love being crated in an enclosed room where she can't see anyone. But, she does very well at night in her crate and actually runs to it to relax! She also loves to eat in her crate which helps to reinforce that the crate is a great place.

Queenie is not a girl who knows about personal space. She loves to get up right in your face, and even try to share your snack. She loves to be glued to your hip once she knows you are a safe space.

Queenie is still learning to be on a leash. An adopter should be prepared to give her a lot of patience and time to get used to the leash. She loves to explore and smell things. She is young and active but right now she is content with running around and playing fetch inside of the house.

Queenie's ideal home is one where they will be patient with her and loving and give her the time to learn and love to be outside. A relaxed home without a lot of chaos would be best. Queenie is super affectionate. Loves to give kisses as much as she loves getting kisses. She loves to be smothered and hugged. She is very playful, smart, curious, and a big couch potato.

*PLEASE NOTE: all of our dogs are fostered in Houston, TX, where our rescue is based. However, we work with trusted transport partners to transport our dogs to over 30 cities in the United States. Additionally, adopters are always encouraged to come to Houston to pick up the pup and bring them home. Once an adoption is confirmed, our team will work with you to determine the best transport schedule. Her adoption fee includes her transport fee.
