Clara is the most hilarious, cuddly, full of life bulldog that you have ever met.
Clara into our rescue after her owners dropped her off at a high kill shelter when they could no longer afford her care. She was pretty much a medical mess. Her corkscrew tail was growing into her body, causing massive infection. She had several kinds of bacteria and yeast on her skin, causing her extreme discomfort. And, she had an injured eye that was left untreated, which turned into high pressure glaucoma. She has undergone 2 major surgeries: one with a soft tissue surgeon where we amputated her inverted tail, opened up her airways with nares surgery, and spayed her. Then a 2nd surgery with the ophthalmologist where we removed the eye with glaucoma and we fixed the other eye which had entropian (eyelids turning inward so eyelashes scrape the eyeball).
And, our girl has come through so beautifully on the other side!!! She is all healed up and ready to find her forever home.
Clara is the type of dog who LOVES everyone. She cannot get close enough. She would love to crawl into your skin. If you want a couch potato cuddle buddy, Clara is your girl. She could sit with you all day and night, just snuggling.
Clara is great with other dogs. She is very forward with male dogs and loves to sniff every inch of their business. She is a bit better with female dogs but she is still forward. So, if a dog is in the home, they should be pretty submissive or have the ability to walk away. Clara doesn't have a mean bone in her body but she's also not the best at picking up on cues to back off. She currently is in a foster home with 3 small dogs (all 10lbs) and she does beautifully.
Clara is potty trained and crate trained. She would be a wonderful addition to an apartment or home environment.
Our girl really does not need much - just a human to love her and take care of her.
Medical: Like all bulldogs, Clara will need an adopter who is diligent about staying on top of medical. Due to her skin folds, she will need a wipe down daily so that bacteria doesn't grow in the folds. She also has very sensitive skin and is currently on a hydrolyzed protein diet with allergy meds (Zenrelia). This combination is working for her and her skin has calmed down completely. An adopter should be prepared to work with their vet on finding the perfect long term solution for her.

*PLEASE NOTE: all of our dogs are fostered in Houston, TX, where our rescue is based. However, we work with trusted transport partners to transport our dogs to over 30 cities in the United States. Additionally, adopters are always encouraged to come to Houston to pick up the pup and bring them home. Once an adoption is confirmed, our team will work with you to determine the best transport schedule.
