Animal Information: Tootsie is a 1-year-old, 5-pound Chihuahua who came into the Stanislaus shelter as a stray. The shelter was a big and scary place for such a tiny girl, and she found comfort by staying close to the staff who helped her feel safe. She can shut down in her kennel, but once she’s out and with people, she warms up quickly.

Tootsie has tested well with other small dogs, though she can be nervous around larger dogs, which is completely understandable given her size. We can't wait to meet her!

Foster Profile: Welcome Tootsie to Washington! This sweet girl was found as a stray in CA and we just couldn't say no. Tootsie has been settling in super well into her foster home, and is ready to find her forever. She loves to walk, play with her toys, and is very much cat-like who loves to cuddle, but on her terms.

Tootsie took quickly to her crate and sleeps overnight without complaint, learned the ropes of potty training after a few accidents in the first few days, and does well on leash.

She is a tiny girl with a touch of sass. She is showing a bit of resource guarding around her favorite things and will do well with a family willing to help her show the ropes of manners. She'd do well with another confident dog in the house or as a solo-gal. Due to her sass, we are only looking for homes with older kids or adults only.

Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations Rabies and DPPV per AVMA standards, any indicated preventative care, heartworm test, microchip with lifetime registration, and recent health check with a veterinarian.
