DESCRIPTION

Animal Information: Rye is an estimated 2 year old, 17lb terrier mix that was brought into RASKC on 2/11. His condition was horrendus, the hair he did have was matted, and you could smell the yeast on him a mile away. Veterinary exam showed a history of neglect; skin infection and ears that needed surgery a total ear canal ablation surgery. Unfortunately the estimated cost of surgery for the shelter meant they would have to choose between helping one dog, or dozens of other dogs for the same cost. Rye was at risk for euthanasia, and when we heard his story we knew we had to help! Lucky for us, our fabulous vet Dr. Vlad at Crossroads in Bellevue had experience with this condition, and was able to surgically remove the inflamed tissue and save his hearing! It took many weeks to recover and fight off infection, but Rye is now healthy and ready for adoption. He is more prone to allergies, and is on a rabbit protein diet with supplements to keep him healthy and comfortable.

Foster Profile: Rye bread, fry bread, love our little guy bread! Rye is 100% amazing, and if keeping him meant we could still continue fostering, he’d never leave. This sweet boy is house-trained, crate-trained, and loves car rides. Walks like a dream on a leash, too!

Rye gets along wonderfully with both the large and small dogs in his foster home, and he’s incredibly patient with fellow foster puppies. He’s gentle and affectionate with our kids (ages 2 and 6), does great around our chickens, and peacefully coexists with the cat. In fact, they even like to beg for treats side by side.

He’s also a dream for grooming. Baths, drying, and nail trims are all no problem. Rye loves ear rubs and will happily roll over for belly scratches any chance he gets.

This lovable little guy is going to make one very lucky family incredibly happy.
