DESCRIPTION
Hi, my name is Fernando! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Energetic, bold, exuberant, playful, affectionate, still learning!
-Can Live with Kids: Older teenagers ages 16+ due to rough/mouthy behavior.
-Can Live with Cats: No thanks. Fernando "will chase anything that moves", according to his previous owner.
-Can Live with Dogs: He has not lived with dogs previously but might be okay with the right match. We would recommend another high energy dog who is confident enough to not be overwhelmed by Fernando. Introductions held at WHS to ensure it's a good match.
-Can do Apartment Living: Yes, with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Fernando can be vocal.
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No.
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, at least one private lesson
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a neuter
-Additional Information:
Fernando is a spirited, high-energy boy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. This charming pup is always ready for action whether it’s playtime, a long walk, or just being part of whatever you’re doing. His enthusiasm for life is contagious, and he has a way of winning people over with his playful nature and lovable charm.
Like many energetic dogs, Fernando can get a bit mouthy when he becomes overexcited which, for him, is pretty often! Because of this, he’ll do best in a home that understands his needs and is committed to helping him learn appropriate ways to express his excitement. Fernando is looking for a stable, patient home where he can truly thrive. He needs someone who has the time and dedication to invest in consistent training, structure, and positive reinforcement. With the right guidance, Fernando has so much potential to grow into a well-mannered and deeply loyal companion. More than anything, Fernando is craving a strong bond with his person. He’s eager to build trust and form a meaningful connection with someone who will stick by him and help him become his best self. We are requiring prior dog-experience for adoption.
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
