Meet Checkers, a one-year-old Cattle Dog/Chihuahua mix weighing 25 pounds.

Checkers is an adorable little dog with a soft heart and a cautious curiosity about the world. With his striking looks and cute docked tail, he looks like a Mini Cattle Dog–type mix, bringing a smart, observant energy along with his charm.

In his finder’s care, Checkers did well with other dogs and seemed comfortable in their company. He’s friendly with people too, but is still unsure about his new surroundings and is taking things one step at a time. Rather than rushing in, Checkers has a sweet habit of slowly creeping up for affection once he feels safe—like a little shadow hoping for love.

He currently has little to no leash training, so he’ll need a patient adopter willing to teach him that walks and new experiences can be positive and fun. With gentle guidance and consistency, he has all the makings of a loyal and capable companion.
