Georgia is accepting applications within 1.5 hours of the Houghton, NY area.
Georgia is a sweet girl who has overcome a lot and is finally learning that life can be pretty wonderful. After raising a litter of puppies and recovering from a serious bout of pneumonia, Georgia has spent the past couple of months with her foster family healing, gaining confidence, and discovering that people can be kind, loving, and fun.
Once Georgia knows you, she absolutely loves attention and affection. She enjoys being loved on and is happiest with people she trusts. New people and unfamiliar situations can still make her nervous, though, so she needs a patient family who will allow her to approach things at her own pace. She can be especially cautious around men, although she has recently become much more comfortable with them and is even starting to approach for a sniff or some pets.
Georgia has never shown aggression when she is scared. Instead, she is more likely to retreat and find her safe space. Sudden movements and loud noises are what startle her most. Inside, she'll head to her crate or bed, which she considers her cozy little safe zone. Outside, she may pull or jump when startled on leash or run a short distance before stopping to evaluate the situation and slowly making her way back.
She would do best in a quiet, patient home without young children. Older, respectful children who understand dog body language may be a good fit. Georgia needs people who will give her time to build trust rather than forcing interactions.
There are plenty of wonderful things about Georgia, too! She gets along well with other dogs and cats, travels beautifully in the car, and is comfortable around farm life. She has been around chickens, ducks, and horses and does well with them. She is also food motivated and is beginning to learn and remember basic commands like sit and down.
Most importantly, Georgia is making progress. Every new experience she handles, every person she learns to trust, and every time she chooses to come closer instead of retreating is another little victory.
A securely fenced yard is a MUST for Georgia. She needs a safe, enclosed space where she can enjoy off-leash time without the risk of getting loose if something startles her.
Georgia isn't looking for a perfect family—she's looking for a patient family willing to let her confidence grow at her own pace. In return, you'll get the joy of watching a sweet girl discover just how good life can be.
