Dewey - Black Labrador Retriever Dog for Adoption in Buffalo, New York

Meet Dewey! Everyone thinks this handsome guy is a Lab mix, and with that beautiful, ridiculously soft black coat, we can see why. Honestly, his hair is probably enough to make John Stamos jealous.

Dewey is about 1.5 years old and weighs around 50 pounds. He is an extremely affectionate guy who will happily lean right into you, lay beside you, or work his way into your lap. He’s sweet, gentle, and loves being around people. He has been great with kids and adults, including at busy events where he calmly sits for pets like he’s been doing this his whole life.

And despite being a young dog, Dewey is surprisingly chill. No jumping, biting, or mouthing, and none of the typical puppy antics. He enjoys chewing on his toys, playing with a ball, and doing his own thing. He also likes to patrol and hop around the yard, but once he gets that out of his system, he’s perfectly happy to come inside and settle down.

Dewey is doing really well with his crate training. He’ll go in with a treat or a little direction, happily hangs out in there with his toys, takes naps while his foster works from home, and sleeps quietly in his crate all night. He also eats in his crate and gets crated periodically while his foster is home to keep things familiar. No accidents in his crate.
Dewey is also housebroken.

With other dogs, Dewey seems to be more of a coexist guy than a rough-and-tumble player. His foster describes him as about 30% player and 70% coexist(er). He can play, but he’s perfectly content doing his own thing and hanging out nearby. He is submissive during play and does well with handling, including having his paws wiped and ears and mouth checked.

Dewey is looking for a home without cats or small dogs under 30 pounds.
