Meet Buddy! He is a 10 yr old, tricolor, 44 lb male beagle. We believe he was used for hunting in his former life. He was surrendered to a shelter due to being lame, turns out his ACL was torn in half and had been that way for awhile. Ouch. He was taken in and surgery completed. He is currently rehabbing and doing well. Recently his staples were removed, and he is increasingly using his leg. He has since also been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
Buddy is an even tempered boy. He does have some dominance tendencies, being a bit bigger beagle. He has established himself as head of the pack. He is not food protective withhumans but does not like when other dogs come near his food bowl and will growl at them. Common and would prefer to be fed separately. Otherwise he does well with other dogs and loves to go outside and run and play. His leg has healed nicely and we have not noticed him favoring it at all. He had a lot of muscle loss from the leg issue and is slowly growing his muscle mass back. We have started walking himmore and he loves to go and explore. He likes attention but is not intrusive, typically he will ie at your feet while you are watching TV. When its time to eat, he will lay on the floor until its ready. He has been getting some special treatment with some eggs and green beans, which he doesnt really care about! So much for trying!
At night, he has his own kennel and sleeps all night in it. We have started leaving the door open in case he wants to go out but he rarely does and only comes out in the morning. On more than one occasion he has come in to wake us up with sloppy kisses and lays next to us, its so sweet. He is house trained and we have yet to find any accidents from him. He knows the word "outside' and is usually one of the first out the door. He lives with other beagles. He loves to be outside, and then when done sniffing loves to come back in and relax.
He is very smart and learns quickly. He is good in the car, has peeked his head out the window, but mostly just lays down in the back. He has been known to jump in the front seat and look straigt ahead just like a human! Its so cute.
When we are out in public, he does well with meeting strangers and does not jump. He barks occasionally but usually when the others have initiated it. When he wants to sleep during the day he will go to his kennel and lay down.
He would do well being an only dog, or having a doggie friend approx his size. He doesnt acknowledge cats. He would love someone to spend time with him. Buddys new family will not be disappointed, he is a great companion dog and will be your buddy!
you can apply at bassetandbeagle.org, his adoption fee is $350.
