Meet Blue
Blue is an approximately 3-year-old Beagle mix with a gentle soul who is looking for a patient, understanding family willing to help him discover what it truly means to be loved.
Blue's story is a sad one, but we are determined to help him write a much happier next chapter.
Blue was originally intended to be a hunting dog. When it became apparent that he was too frightened by gunfire to hunt, he was no longer considered useful for that purpose. Rather than being given the opportunity to become a beloved family companion, Blue spent much of the last two years living in a hunting box with very little human interaction.
Those early experiences left their mark. Blue is a timid, nervous boy who can be especially frightened when people are standing or moving toward him. His previous owner reported that she was unable to pet him because he was simply too fearful.
But Blue has shown us thatthere is so much more to him than his fear.
Blue is currently in atrial adoption home, but we are realizing that a home with younger children isn't the best fit for his nervous nature. The activity and noise of a household with young kids can be overwhelming for him, and Blue is happiest when life is calm and predictable.
He has already shown us how much he enjoys quieter time at home, especially now that the kids have started school and the house is more peaceful during the day.
Getting to know Blue
Blue has some adorable quirks that are emerging as he becomes more comfortable.
He is anight owland enjoys being awake later in the evening. He also absolutely loves having access to adoggy door, which allows him to come and go as he feels comfortable and gives him the freedom to choose where he wants to be.
During the day, when things inside the house become louder, Blue sometimes likes to retreat underneath the outside deck for a quiet nap. This gives him a peaceful place to decompress when he needs a break from household activity. As recommended for his safety,Blue is never left outside when no one is home.
Blue is also very much a Beagle when it comes to food!
Breakfast is one of his favorite times of day.After a good night's sleep, he is more approachable and ready to enjoy his morning meal. And once breakfast is over, don't be surprised if Blue celebrates with a serious case of thezoomies!
Food can be a wonderful way to connect with Blue, and his love of breakfast is one of the fun little glimpses into his personality that make us smile.
When Blue is home alone with his best friend, Belle, he likes to settle into a safe, cozy place. You'll often find the two of them hanging out with Blue choosing hiskennel or a spot underneath the bedwhere he can relax and feel secure.
Things that frighten Blue
Because of his past, Blue is sensitive to loud and unexpected noises. He isterrified of thunder and lightning, and household sounds such as thevacuum and coffee grindercan also be very scary for him.
This is another reason a calm, quieter home will be so important. Blue needs people who understand that when he is frightened, he may need to retreat to his safe space rather than being encouraged or forced to interact.
Giving him choices and allowing him to approach at his own pace has been key to helping him build confidence.
Learning the basics
Blue is not currently fully leash trained, which is understandable given the limited life experiences he's had.
Blue does best when people don't rush him. He needs a family that understands shy and fearful dogs and is willing to let trust develop gradually.
Blue & Belle
Blue shares an incredibly special bond with his friendBelle, and the two will need to beadopted together.
Their similar experiences as discarded hunting dogs have made them inseparable. They were housed together in the same kennel and have continued to be wonderful companions for one another. They love to play together and provide each other with comfort and confidence.
Belle is an important source of security for Blue, and having her by his side helps him navigate a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming.
Blue's ideal home
Blue needs aquiet, patient, Beagle-savvy familythat understands nervous and fearful dogs.
We believe he would do best in a home witholder children, ideally 15 and up, who can respect his boundaries, give him space, and allow him to approach at his own pace. A home without young children and constant activity would be much more comfortable for him.
Asecurely fenced yard is required. Having a doggy door would be a wonderful bonus, as Blue loves being able to choose when he wants to be inside or outside.
A confident resident dog may also be beneficial, although Blue and Belle will already have each other to lean on. Their relationship is an important part of their sense of security.
Most importantly, Blue needs someone who understands that progress may come in small steps. His victories might look different from those of a typical dog choosing to approach someone, accepting pets, relaxing in the same room, enjoying breakfast, or confidently racing around the house with the zoomies.
Every one of those moments matters.
Blue is neutered, heartworm negative, and weighs approximately16.8 pounds. He has been microchipped, vaccinated and fecal tested.
Blue and Belle are currently in a home environment in the greater Seattle area where they are learning what it feels like to be cherished companions rather than kennel dogs. Blue's journey is still unfolding, and every day brings new opportunities for him to discover that the world can be safe, quiet, and loving.
He doesn't need a family who expects him to become confident overnight. He needs a family who willsit down, be patient, offer him breakfast, respect his safe spaces, and let him come to them.
Because somewhere underneath all that nervousness is a sweet boy who really, really wants to be loved.

Please note: Our rescue is foster-based and cannot hold dogs for future adoption due to travel, home renovations, or schedule changes. Adopters must be prepared to welcome their new companion within a reasonable timeframe.
We do our best to ensure every dog is as healthy and prepared as possible, but we ask adopters to understand that rescue dogs may need time to decompress and adjust. They are not perfect they are simply in need of patience, understanding, and a second chance.
