Meet Whiskey!

Whiskey is a 6-year-old Australian Shepherd weighing 32 pounds. This sweet but shy boy has a gentle heart and a quietly joyful personality waiting to shine. He may take a little time to feel comfortable in new situations, but once he learns he can trust you, he transforms into a wiggly bundle of happiness who loves being near his people.

Whiskey gets along great with other dogs and truly thrives in their company. Being around canine friends helps him feel more confident and secure, and he looks to them for reassurance as he navigates the world. Because of this, he requires a home with another confident, dog-social canine already in the household to help support his continued growth and confidence.

Once Whiskey is comfortable with his people, he enjoys spending time by their side and especially loves going for walks. Exploring the world with someone he trusts is one of his favorite activities, and each positive experience helps him continue building confidence.

Whiskey walks well on a leash and continues to gain confidence as he explores new places at his own pace. With patience, consistency, and gentle encouragement, he continues to come out of his shell and show more of his affectionate personality.

A required in-person meet and greet at our shelter is part of the adoption process to help ensure a good fit for both Whiskey, any resident dogs, and his potential adopters.

Whiskey is looking for a calm, understanding home that will give him the time he needs to build trust and continue blossoming into the happy, loving companion he is meant to be. With a patient family and a confident canine friend by his side, Whiskey has all the potential to thrive.

Many NMDR dogs have had limited prior socialization and may need time, patience, and support as they adjust to home life. Skills such as house training, leash walking, and handling may require continued practice. Progress will vary by individual dog.
