MEET KNOX— A GENTLE SOUL WITH A BRILLIANT MIND AND SO MUCH POTENTIAL!
Fostered in New Hampshire - Meet and Greet is recommended -
Knox is a ton of fun, incredibly smart, and at heart, a gentle and watchful soul. He's the kind of dog who can happily walk for miles through fields and woods with his person, then settle quietly nearby while you read or work at your desk. he has the most beautiful unusual coloring – he's a fashion runway Aussie model showstopper in the looks department!
It has taken several weeks for him to truly begin settling into his foster home, and as his anxiety has eased, we've been able to see more and more of the wonderful dog underneath. He bonds with his person, pays close attention, and responds quickly to voice commands in most situations. He enjoys his daily adventures and does well walking on leash or a long line—although deer and turkeys can definitely get his attention!
Knox is not looking for just any home. He needs a training-minded adopter who understands that a very smart, young, exuberant dog can sometimes have BIG feelings.
He needs a calm, confident adopter who can recognize when his excitement is building, help him calm down, and continue teaching him better ways to handle those moments.
When he becomes overly excited or overstimulated, he can be a lot of dog. He is big, strong and a little mouthy, and may grab at hands, clothing or his leash when he gets wound up. Not in a biting way, but in a typical herding Aussie just mouthing way.
He can be a little cautious with men when first meeting them, but with patience and a gentle approach, he can build trust at his own pace. Any couple or male who is willing to take things slowly, give him time to settle into his new environment, and allow the relationship to develop without big expectations at first will have the best opportunity to earn his confidence and become one of his trusted people.
He has also has some reactivity toward bikes, runners, cars and trucks, particularly on the narrow roads around his current foster home. His adopter will need continue working on this with appropriate management and training.
The good news? This boy has tremendous potential.
He is intelligent, attentive, responsive, extremely good looking and clearly enjoys working with his person. With an experienced adopter who enjoys training and is willing to give him structure, consistency, appropriate exercise and continued guidance, we believe Knox can continue making great progress.
Knox needs a home with an owner who will look at the dog he is today, recognize the amazing dog he can become, and be excited to take that journey with him.
If you have experience with smart, active dogs and are looking for a companion to learn, train, explore and grow with, Knox just might be waiting for you.
