Harvey - Australian Shepherd and German Shepherd Dog Dog for Adoption in Monticello, Iowa

Harvey is a loyal, intelligent boy who is looking for someone willing to see the incredible dog behind his reserved first impression. He was surrendered after struggling with new people and the addition of a baby in his previous home. While those changes were difficult for him, they do not define who he is. Harvey has so many wonderful qualities and is simply looking for a home that understands his needs and is committed to helping him succeed.

Harvey is the kind of dog who takes his time getting to know new people. He doesn't rush into friendships, but once you've earned his trust, you'll have a devoted companion by your side. He is gentle, thoughtful, and enjoys a predictable routine where he knows what to expect. He walks nicely on a leash, takes treats politely, knows "sit," and has excellent house manners. He is house trained, crate trained, and keeps his kennel clean.

Harvey gets along with other dogs but has found the shelter environment to be stressful, which is understandable after such a big life change. He would thrive in a quieter home with older children or adults who can respect his boundaries and allow him to build confidence at his own pace. An experienced owner who believes in positive reinforcement, structure, and advocating for their dog will help Harvey become the very best version of himself.

Those who know Harvey describe him as an amazing dog, and it's easy to see why. He doesn't need someone to "fix" him. He needs someone willing to understand him, provide consistency, continue his training, and appreciate the loyal, intelligent companion he truly is. For the right family, Harvey will be an incredibly rewarding partner whose trust and devotion are earned, making the bond all the more special.
