Redd - Labrador Retriever and Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Monticello, Iowa

Redd is a happy, goofy boy who has been given a second chance, and we are so grateful he was surrendered instead of euthanized. After an incident involving a neighbor's dog, Redd's previous owners were given the choice to euthanize him or surrender him to AWF. They chose surrender, giving Redd the opportunity to find a home that understands him and is willing to help him succeed.

And what a lucky choice that was, because Redd is such a fun dog! He is affectionate, loyal, intelligent, and always ready for his next adventure. He knows how to sit, takes treats nicely, walks on a leash, and even catches treats like a pro. When it comes to playtime, he's all in. He loves balls, stuffies, and staying active with his people. He's also got a wonderfully goofy side that is guaranteed to keep you laughing. In fact, Redd will even jump on a trampoline with the kids!

Redd has done well with children of all ages and is a wonderful example of just how much personality can be packed into one dog. He is crate trained, house trained, keeps his kennel clean, and has a great foundation of skills. He can get jumpy when he's excited and occasionally forgets his manners, so continued training and positive reinforcement will help him learn appropriate ways to channel his enthusiasm.

When it comes to other dogs, Redd is selective. He gets along well with female dogs but can be selective about his male canine companions. He has also been stressed by the shelter environment, so thoughtful introductions and proper management will be important. His new family should be prepared to advocate for him and understand that he doesn't need to be friends with every dog he meets.

Redd would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard, daily exercise, structure, and people who enjoy an active, playful companion. He has so much personality and so much to offer, and we are incredibly happy that he was given the opportunity to show us what a wonderful dog he can be.

Redd's story could have ended very differently, but instead, he gets to keep chasing balls, playing with kids, jumping on trampolines, and making people laugh. Now he just needs a family who will give him the chance to do all of that for the rest of his life.
