Those eyes! Stein is a handsome 2-year-old Miniature Australian Shepherd weighing around 25-30 pounds, whose striking blue eyes are sure to catch your attention-but his fun-loving personality is what will steal your heart.
Stein came to us after a change in his family's living situation meant they could no longer keep him. While his circumstances may have changed, Stein hasn't lost his enthusiasm for life. This energetic boy is always ready for an adventure and is thrilled to make new friends, whether they're human or canine!
As a herding breed, Stein has plenty of energy and instincts to put to work. His ideal adopter will be someone who understands the unique traits of Miniature Australian Shepherds and is prepared to provide him with plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, training, and opportunities to use his busy brain. Whether it's exploring new places, learning something new, or simply joining you on an adventure, Stein wants to be part of the action.
Stein does have a tendency to herd cats, so a feline-free home may be the best fit for him. This behavior appears to be driven by his natural herding instincts rather than aggression-he has never tried to hurt a cat-but his instincts are something his adopter will need to understand and manage.
And when adventure time is over? Stein is happy to let you know that snacks are always welcome. He absolutely loves food and will never say no to a treat! He does like to enjoy his meals at his own pace, though, so there's no need to rush this guy when it's dinner time.

Stein is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $300.

Stein is in the Paws in Prison program, where he receives basic obedience training. He will graduate from Paws in Prison on 11/21/2026. The dogs in this program are provided basic level training under the AKC Canine Good Citizen standards and are specifically selected to be family and companion dogs. They spend 24 hours a day with their trainers. So, there will be an adjustment period as they adjust to their new family schedule.

For this reason, they will do best in homes where they are primarily inside dogs and spend lots of time with their families. The adoptive family will receive his training journal. This journal documents his arrival from the shelter, daily training progress, and interactions with the trainers.
